African Elephant

Loxodonta africanus

This is the largest extant terrestrial mammal. The ears of the African elephant are huge and can be half the height of a person. It is almost twice the size of the Asian elephant. The African elephant is immediately recognisable by the two “fingers” that form on the edge of its huge trunk, which can weigh up to 150-200 kg.

Weight: > 7,000 kg, Height: 2.4-5.5 m, Life span:60-70 years.
